Silverlake office, six month anniversary!

In my last newsletter, I announced the opening of my new office at 2900 Riverside Ave in Silverlake. I am coming up on six months in this space at the end of October, and I can say that I am very happy to be here! The response from new and returning clients has been very positive, and I've enjoyed settling into this lovely office and gradually making it mine. If you haven't been by yet, it is a cozy and stylish space, with better parking and more privacy than my previous location in Atwater Village, just down the road. Please read on below for COVID safety precautions. Beginning with October, I will be expanding my office hours to four days a week. As usual, I continue to offer home visits in ventilated indoor spaces. Outdoor home visit work is also available.

New office hours: Thursday through Sunday (and some Wednesdays). 9:00am - 6:00pm

October discounts:

As we settle into the autumn months, now is a natural time to turn toward the body, to nurture our sense of solidity and rootedness, to breathe deeply and notice our bodily rhythms. Autumn is a time to celebrate and tend to our inner resources and our strength in community. With appreciation for all of that, I'm offering a one-time discount of 10 percent off of any appointment scheduled by October 31, as well as an additional 5 percent off of Self-Care Packages (normally 15 percent—now 20 percent—off of four or more sessions prepaid).

These discounts are Joni Mitchell-themed (some of my favorite autumnal music—paradoxically almost never about rootedness, but I guess that just says something about the way Joni and I root into ourselves. No judgement if this describes you as well: you are among friends).

Use the following discount codes when scheduling:

Hejira: 10 percent off of any one session.

Blue: Additional 5 percent off of any Self-Care Package (select the Self-Care Package add-on when scheduling your session).

Limit one discount per person. Sessions may be scheduled for any date, but must be booked by October 31.

New office partner, Phoebe Lyman!

I'm pleased to be welcoming into the 2900 Riverside office my friend Phoebe Lyman. Phoebe is a manual therapist and birth worker, with a background in sexual and reproductive health research and herbal medicine. I met Phoebe a few years back when she was first getting interested in Visceral Manipulation work, and it has been exciting to see her move into that world and prepare to launch her own practice. Phoebe will be in the office Mondays and Wednesdays, and some Sundays. Learn more about her and get in touch through her website: phoebelyman.com.

COVID safety, as always:

We continue to face the evolving challenges of these pandemic years. Like most business owners, I have spent a lot of time figuring out ways to stay safe and minimize the risks to my clientele. I continue to encourage folks to get vaccinated if you have not done so. In addition, here are the precautions I am taking around the office:

I am using a powerful 5-stage HEPA and VOC air purifier, as well as bringing in a constant stream of fresh air with a combination of a window fan and the building’s central exhaust. I still require that everyone wear a face mask during their session. I have resumed double-masking for myself (cloth mask over an un-vented N-95 mask) during sessions since the Delta strain began circulating. My new office has its own entrance and waiting area, meaning no overlap between people coming and going, and no office building hallways or elevators to navigate. In between sessions, I am airing out the space for a minimum of 30 minutes between clients.

Poems by Gennady Aygi:

In my ongoing effort to offer something worth reading in these newsletters, here are a few selections from a very touching book of poetry by the Chuvash-Russian poet Gennady Aygi, Saluteto Singing, as translated by Peter France.

from Thirty-six Variations on Themes from Chuvash and Mari Folk-songs (1998-1999):

4.

Is it a sudden whisper of disaster,
or a hand's comforting touch?
No, just the wind flinging back
the left flap of my greatcoat

13.

The birch's rustle—like a whispered goodbye,
and above it
a solitary swift—
like falling scissors.

25.

The fields, blackened by our hands,
are now made golden by them,
like joy springing different
in one and the same song.

29.

And then, appearing through sleep,
as on to a little bridge,
you step out, along the same path,
on the same dying light of evening.

36.

And a cloud is floating, a round cloud,
like a cap on my head,
and my time passes, like a dream
dreamed without sleep.

With care,

Wilson
